History

Suitcase Theatre is a registered charitable organization that was founded by the original producer and creator of Mr. Dressup, one of Canada’s most loved and longest running children’s television shows. The theatre group performs at daycares, schools, hospitals, community centres, festivals and special events across Ontario. We also offer dynamic after school programs, camps and class workshops that focus on drama, improv, comedy, singing, dancing and the visual arts.

Our goal is simple: we encourage everyone to discover their creativity and love of live theatre regardless of income or circumstance.

Our charitable registration number is 81769 5190 RR0001.

“As the creator of Mr. Dressup, Canada’s longest running children’s television program, I set out to create a theatre company with the same ethics and ease that Mr. Dressup has shared for nearly 40 years. I wanted to get back to my roots of live children’s theatre and, in 2008, the idea of Suitcase Theatre was born. Every set, costume and prop is brilliantly engineered to be carried in one magical suitcase, making trips on the road and set-ups a snap. I am also encouraged and delighted by the wonderful response to our after school programs, community plays and art and drama camps. I am energized by the passion our team possesses and am so very fortunate to share it with you.”
